Social Networking for those 35-50 in New Jersey
I was poking around on ICLE's website and found seminar that I thought sounded interesting -- here's the link http://www.njicle.com/seminar.aspx?sid=280 . It's a web-seminar (webinar) about the dark side of on-line social networking sites (like Facebook and My Space). It's through New Jersey ICLE, which is non-profit legal education group. The seminar is $135 generally. I spoke with the guy at ICLE to see if he would do a group rate. He advised me that anyone who signs up saying they are from Meetup will get a rate of $79.
The webinar discusses legal issues about these sites, but, it's mostly geared toward letting people know about some of the things people may not know about these social networking sites. According to the summary of the seminar, the types of concerns they plan on addressing are:
For example, many popular social networking websites allow users to communicate and store a substantial amount of personal information. However, many users don’t know how sites like MySpace, Facebook and YouTube store their data.
- Is their personal information protected?
- Can a potential employer access information about them?
- Can someone gain control of an account and use the information for unforeseen purposes?
- When can an Internet service provider disclose subscriber information?
If you pull up the link, you'll see a full description of the seminar. It will be run live on February 10. It may be provided at a later date off of a recording, but they are not certain yet whether they will be able to do that, so they recommend that anyone wishing to attend do so on February 10.
Just figured I would pass along this information, as it sounds like they will be providing useful information.
